The Elissa Regatta on April 2-3 had some really close, competitive racing, with Robert Williams clinching 1st place in the last race. Dean Snider finished 2nd and Dick Baxter 3rd. Congratulations! The Consul World Fest/Film Fest was April 17th. There were five Ensigns ready to go out, but heavy winds prevailed for all but Dick Baxter who took four guests out for a breezy ride on Galveston Bay. They had a great time.
The Summer Series begins on May 8th. We hope to see lovely weather, and a lot of Ensigns out to enjoy it and the competition. |

Thank you to Kay and Dean Snider for hosting the Ensign Spring Party March 12th. It was a great event with good friends, food, libations, and weather. It’s always fun to get together at social events as well as the sailing events, and a good time was had by all.
The first of the Spring Series was held March 19th, and will conclude on May 7th. The HYC Series Races are always fun and we look forward to a good turn out for the last of this series.

Fleet 2 Billy
Richnow
wins HYC Championship
The Club Championship was completed just minutes before the Change of Watch Ceremony held Oct. 30 at HYC. Congratulations to Billy Richnow, Houston Yacht Club Champion. There were five competitors, each representing a fleet. They sailed the Ensigns, and changed boats after each of the five races. Billy, with crew Robert Williams and Sandra Baldridge, represented Ensign Fleet 2 in fine style, winning three races and finishing second and third in the other two. At the start of the fifth race, Forrest Short had a good shot at taking the lead. The Ragnot team ended in a 2nd-place tie with the J22 fleet reps, skippered by V/C Pat Gibson. All of the racing was competitive on a wonderful day on Galveston Bay. After a one-hour postponement waiting on wind, the sea breeze filled in starting at 6 knots from the east and going to 10 to 12 knots from 135 degrees by the end of the fifth race. It was really fall sailing on Galveston bay at its best. Thank you to Dean Snider, Billy Richnow, Jack Yoes, Ian Edwards and Terry Hurzeler for lending their boats for the event and Kay Snider for her organizing effort. |
